#14. Home of the Singapore Sling

I first had this drink when I was 20 years old at a friend’s 21st birthday party. I loved the taste but I remember my ears getting very hot and my whole face was flushed. It was a very strong cocktail with a heavy hand on the gin. It tasted alot like spiked punch to me. I love the combination of the pineapple lime and cherry. Anyway here’s the recipe:

1 oz gin
1/2 oz cherry brandy
4 oz pineapple juice
1/2 oz lime juice
1/4 oz Cointreau® orange liqueur
1/4 oz benedictine herbal liqueur
1/3 oz grenadine syrup
1 dash Angostura® bitters

Combine all of the ingredients in a shaker, fill with ice and shake until the shaker is well frosted. Strain into a tall glass and garnish with a slice of pineapple and cherry.

This Sling left a bad taste for my experience. I have been to the Long Bar many times. Each visit was fine until once I decided to ordered what everyone else was ordering. After all, it was from the very bar that this drink became so famous.
    First sip: “Eeerrrmmm… …”
    More sips: “EEeeeeeee… …”
It tasted like cough syrup to me, and an expensive cough-syrup-taste drink indeed 😛

I think I might have strange taste buds. My friends think this tastes like cough syrup too ;-p

I had one of these on my flight home from Singapore. I found it quite nice, however, perhaps drinking it out of a small plastic cup does it a bit of a disservice.
