Oomphatico’s

At the Oomphatico website they actually encourage you to read a book. Something like that wins me over immediately. It helps also that the place has an inviting decor and is located at Tanglin Mall which is a nice sleepy mall, a favourite haunt of expats, that never gets too crowded. I noticed that most of the patrons don’t seem to be locals, and they chose to be seated outdoors. For me even if the view is nice, I would rather have air-conditioning because I tend to wilt and wither outdoors.

We stood at the entrance checking out the menu as I was attracted by the floral sofas. As we entered it was already closer to lunchtime and I asked if they were still serving the breakfast menu. A very nice lady checked for me and told us that we could order from that menu except for the eggs benedict. I found her welcoming and polite which is always a big factor in whether I return to a place or not.

The ambience inside was real pretty and there were lavender cupcakes with generous swirls of icing at the counter. Those would be great for tea.

Don’t know if you can see what’s on the various menus but we picked from both the breakfast menu and the lunch set so that we could share.

The 2 course set lunch came with yummy tomato soup and a slice of garlic bread. It was so good I wish we could have had more.

The main was pan fried red snapper which tasted fresh and had a trickle of lovely buttery sauce.

The Oomphatico Grilled Breakfast came with ciabatta bread, 2 eggs sunny side up, grilled mushrooms, sausages, and the most divine salty crispy bacon. As you can tell I liked the bacon the best. The rest was just ok.

The total bill came up to $32.65 Singapore dollars which is on the expensive side as we just had iced water and no additional drinks. I will most certainly make another visit with a book and perhaps for tea instead. I must try the $8 nett tea time treat where I can choose a tea or coffee to go with a cupcake or sandwiches – I’ll probably go for the coffee with sandwiches – thinking about it is making me hungry again!
