I felt like doing a post on the writers I am currently enthralled by, and I thought it would be fascinating to get a glimpse of the rooms where they produce their magic. A personal view of the rooms, where they write.
Paul Theroux’s room has lovely art work, but looks pretty messy to me. From his books it seems that he does the most writing on his train journeys. I wish I had a fraction of his diligence.
V S Naipaul’s room is shockingly sparse and looks very much like the study area of a teenager. It looks like this genius doesn’t need much to produce fine work.
Charlotte Bronte, author of Jane Eyre in a writing parlour where she discussed writing with her famous sisters.
Peter Mayle’s Study published in Life Magazine.
I found Kurt Vonnegut’s room’s the most interesting and quirky. I love that he uses an old-fashioned typewriter and sits on that sunny chair.
I love that you love Paul Theroux! Great bloggers think alike?
that’s so cool!!! for sure!!
I am addicted to his writing and I’m amazed at how he diligently puts his notes together so that by the end of each trip he’s done!…I don’t think I could do that.
Wow this is an interesting post! I wonder if Kurt has back problems sitting on that chair and leaning so far forward.
My partner wondered the exact same thing! Yeah it doesn’t look very comfortable. Maybe they just showed it that way for the photo shoot.
Love writer’s rooms. Shame the Guardian stopped it. Got a few more on my site. http://daveyspens.wordpress.com/2010/08/13/the-writers-room/
Thanks for sharing Davey 🙂
