Texas Chicken with Best Ever Maple Syrup Biscuits (Singapore Expo in Changi)

Go ahead, take one.

I know…it’s so cruel to tease with food.  Especially fried food!  Anyway, I love the thicker type of fries like this. My only issue was that this was fried to the point where it was too crispy. I prefer the outer casing (is that what you call it? my descriptions are too techie) to be lighter in colour which signals to me that the potato strips are not over-fried. I loved that Heinz Chilli and Tomato Sauce were provided in cute dispensers.  Good chilli sauce is important to me, but my favourite is still the one provided at Wendy’s.

This Texas Supreme burger (which is a chicken burger which has very fresh chicken breast meat). I really like it, but yet again I was missing Wendy’s chicken burger which won my heart hands down. A big issue I have with the Texas Supreme is that the cheese was cold and not melted.

I always imagined Popeye’s Chicken had the best biscuits ever – well the only one in Singapore till now. I actually really like the slight maple syrup taste of the biscuits. I prefer eating it plain this way. With the more sourdough taste for the Popeye’s biscuits I find myself needing to add the butter and jam to it. My verdict is Texas Chicken has the best ever biscuits. Well at least according to my taste buds and sweet tooth.

A bit of history – this chain was started in 1952.

I took a picture of the board so that you can see what’s available on the Texas Chicken menu, including the prices.

I was too full, or else I would have tried the jalapeno peppers and onions rings. Maybe someone else will review these items first and tell me how it was. If they give it a glowing review, I might go back to try them.

Fast food chains tend to use a lot of red and yellow. These are the colours in food psychology that makes you hungry and it’s so true. Once I saw a cafe in blue and they soon went out of business. I get it. Blue is more suitable for a hot room which you want to visually cool down. It is a calming colour but certainly does not help boost your appetite. Colour psychology is pretty engaging stuff.

There is more than ample seats outside. I am sure this place must be very packed during lunchtime.

This place is at the Singapore Expo and it was surprisingly not too crowded when I was there. Most people were at the Halal Food Event in the nearby event hall.

All in all the service was pretty slow. It was also frustrating for B, as they only had soft drinks and he wanted a mineral water. We even asked for a small cup of tap water, but they didn’t oblige. Now, that was bad. McDonald’s always obliges even though they do sell Evian. Also B ordered the sampler which took so long to arrive, I had already finished my burger by the time it came. In all fairness they did apologize for the delay. My texas chicken meal cost $6.80 Singapore dollars and included a dispenser style regular Coke. (I prefer my Coke in a can, but this passed my dispenser coke standards)

Wow the fry looks like it is about to jump out the screen. Texas Chicken still looks pretty deserted. I hope it doesn’t close down. Did you try out the chicken? They also took a long time for ours, but they told us in advance.

it was an accidental photo. I didn’t realise I was focusing on that one fry!

Maybe they are still trying to cope with new staff. I hope it remains around too. My faves are Wendy’s (burger), Popeyes (chicken) and Texas (biscuits). I think it depends on individual preference. But in general these 3 are way better than KFC or McDonalds. Well at least Macs has hotcakes 🙂

I have to admit, i do like KFC actually…hahaha…I love the crispy batter and the secret 11 spices!

i used to like KFC…especially when I tried KFC in Adelaide which was amazingly good….more like Popeye but with all thoses spices!! It was so different. I think the standards have fallen drastically…the chicken pieces also seem so scrawny and oiler.

As much as I appreciate fast food for convinience, I hope it dosen’t take over Singapore like it has central America. I think i saw at least a couple of fast food joints on every block in texas and the average size of a Texan says a lot about the damage its doing…. I know I’m sounding very Spurlockish here 😛

Super Size Me scared me a little, but also made me crave for a burger!!! crazy huh? I think what might happen in Singapore is that new cafes and fast food will slowly take over old style establishments and that might be a sad thing to witness. I think in the future coffee shops might be few and far between and something we need to preserve.
