The cafe, Dome is attached to Borders the bookstore at Parkway Parade. When it’s not too crowded it’s a nice place to have a chat. The Decor reminds us a bit of an old library, with its dark wood panelling, dark wood floors, and a painted globe on the ceiling.
The waitress seemed rude and abrupt at first, but I realized that she didn’t mean it. It was just the natural way she spoke. It was because she smiled. Once she smiled I knew. The smile didn’t fit with the abrasive tone. It’s amazing how a smile can make a world of difference. On the other hand someone speaking seemingly politely, but with a scowl on their face the whole time, can really get you down. I have had experiences like that when the courtesy feels forced. I’d rather have the abrupt voice with the genuinely cheerful face.
My partner had rose petal tea and I had a flat white. The tea strainer when you order just a cup of tea, was interesting. It was fantastic that real tea leaves were used and not an insipid tea bag flavoured water which is served at most other places. Previously we used to order a whole pot, but didn’t this time as I wanted to try the coffee which turned out to be slightly above average. I would have liked it a tad stronger. It’s also a pity that they hardly do cafe art in Singapore. Somehow a heart shape or any lovely pattern on your coffee makes it even more enticing.
The bill for the 2 drinks came to exactly $10 Singapore dollars.
