#55. High Tea at Shangri-la Hotel’s Rose Veranda

Shangri-la is always my instant choice when I’m asked where I like to go for high tea. If you’re celebrating a family member’s birthday celebration on a weekday, you can be there from Noon till 6pm and have a really leisurely relaxing time.  There are countless numbers of teas as well as cappuccinos and lattes to indulge in.  I always start with orange pekoe tea and end with a cappuccino Viennese.  True to its name the place is filled with bouquets of fresh imported long-stemmed roses.  Sometimes red, sometimes pink.  It may be once a year, but it’s always spent most happily here.  I am glad the buffet includes sushi and finger sandwiches which are the items I reach for first.

These are the most recent photos taken within the last year or so.  As you can see I couldn’t get enough of the roses. Even the plates had rose motifs.

The Rose Veranda is my favourite place in the world for high tea! My best friend and I used to celebrate our birthdays there every year. The food is pretty good (not great), but the tea menu is impressive and the atmosphere is fabulous. Thanks for bringing back sweet memories of many happy hours spent at the Shangri-La.

What I love most is the company and memories and this place is out of the way and the sofas are spread out. Nice and cosy. Not as expensive as some other places. So glad you loved it too 🙂

Oh wow that looks phenomenal! Tell me, what is the rainbow colored gooey thing? I’ve seen it everywhere but I’m too terrified to try it!!

I am so glad I recently blogged about this rainbow thingy called kueh lapis. It’s basically a sweet dessert/snack made of flour and coconut that super sticky and kinda gooey. It’s quite an acquired taste.

Ok, I’m going to try it and let you know what I think…hopefully my Western taste buds (and slight intolerance for gooey desserts) will like it!

I can’t wait to hear about your experience 🙂

The Rose Verandah is one of my favourite afternoon tea places too. Just can’t beat the 101 tea selections!
