This place at Dempsey Hill, always looks packed, but we hesitated as it seems to be only al fresco dining. Somehow in Singapore it’s kinda nuts to eat outside, away from the cool protection of the air-conditioning, but we decided what the heck. Perhaps the food here is worth it.
Huber’s Butchery is actually a European style premium speciality store for all kinds of meat. The one at Dempsey Hill has a bistro as well. If you’re a meat eater this would be your kind of place. They claim to import from the best and they produce their own sausages. I can attest that their pork sausage was great although when it reached me it was a tad cold. Would have been perfect if it was hotter.
It was hot outside and thank goodness for the rotating wall fan. It was still too hot. I was thinking the food must be really worth suffering the outdoor sauna.
I noticed that a local family sat down and soon left because it was just way too hot for them. Most of the people patronizing the place were expats who probably missed authentic Western food and didn’t mind the sun so much.
The blackboard is always a nice touch.
Loads of cute kids around.
You can buy the meat home as well.
We were hoping there would be tables available inside, but there is no indoor seating. My suggestion to the management would be a expand if possible and include indoor seating. That would make the place a huge success I think, since the food is top notch.
From this photo I don’t know if you can tell how hot it is.
A closer look at the specials.
A slice of lemon is always a nice touch. The drinks cost $2.95 each. I also had a coke.
The Onion soup tasted authentic with a huge portion of actual onions in it. It cost just S$3.95. No wonder people brave the heat here.
The sausage and fries cost S$8.50 and I would definitely have this again. It was so good. The fries were perfect and somehow didn’t seem oily at all.
B had the daily special at S$9.80 which he found delicious as well. It included meat loaf, sunny side up egg, mashed potatoes and a pureed spinach.
Cute tots trying to climb the Huber cow.
It was so darn cute the way the preschooler brother was helping his little sister get on the cow, although I don’t think they succeeded.
A map so you know how to get there.
The total cost of the meal with taxes came to a reasonable S$30.12 for 2 people. The next time I want to try the burgers. They looked so good from afar.
