More Reason to Love Chris Rock: Good Hair Movie

The theme song to this movie should be Willow Smith’s ‘I Whip My Hair’. Nobody should be made to feel awful, about the beauty they are born with. I think beauty is all about perception and what the magazines and media are promoting, and there’s something really wrong about that.

Whenever I go to the beauty salon, the hair stylist always wants to straighten and relax my hair. I find it insulting and I find this movie liberating. There are some nice stylists who say “Wah, is this natural curls? Lucky. No need to perm ah” and that makes my day. I have blown my hair stick straight before, but it just looks weird on me. It’s not that straight hair does not have its beauty, it’s just that straight hair is not me and I don’t want to be anyone else but me. I suddenly felt a boost of confidence when I said that I am usually the least self assured person you can meet. It must be the trailer. Watch it if you suffer from low hair self esteem.

I heard that Chris Rock was partially inspired by his little daughter, who asked him this bad hair and good hair question, to make this movie about what makes us go to the hair salon to get ‘good hair’.
