Octa Hotel: Parisian Cafe, Japanese Style

There’s something about sipping tea or coffee and indulging in dainty pastries and exquisite parfaits that’s just so feminine. I am always attracted by pretty cafes and Octa Hotel turned my head when I first saw it. At first glance I had the notion that it was the entrance to a new hotel, but I was mistaken.

I was disappointed the last time I wanted to have tea here as it was fully booked for a party. Now there are pictures of that delightful function and it had the most wonderful name – Black Alice Tea Party. I recall seeing girls dressed like Anime characters, all frilly and such, and it fascinated me.

This time we managed to get a seat and it’s just as pretty inside as it is outside. I felt like I was back in Osaka at one of the Japanese Cafes and the interior and desserts looked even better than what I had in Osaka. I definitely want to make a return visit.  Also the place was not filled with stale smoke like what we experienced at most Osaka Cafes and Restaurants, which is a fabulous thing I take for granted.

I had the Strawberry Parfait and Cafe Au Lait while B had the Earl Grey Tea dessert. It came up to S$32 which was not as expensive as my other favourite quaint cafe, Royal Copenhagen at Takashimaya. They provide you with ice water as well, which you always need with ice-cream. The presentation was just so pretty I felt it was a pity to eat it. The icecream and fresh berries were divine and I couldn’t resist countless number of photos. A tad overboard I know. I love how the cornflakes go with ice cream and that’s why I love parfaits. The fresh cream was stuck at the bottom and by the time I reached it I felt a bit full. I also find fresh cream by itself too rich.

The quality of the coffee was really lovely too and it came with steamed whole milk. Lovely. My partner’s dessert was unique and there were savoury tasting cottage cheese pieces in it.

I had the mixed berries parfait which was a Christmas promotion item at S$9.90.

The pale blue decor is just so lovely and inviting.

The lace curtains were so pretty. And it felt like dining Al Fresco in Paris, but with air-conditioning. The seats were turned towards the window just like at a Parisian Cafe. It was very relaxing to be in such beautiful surroundings and in a quiet environment with very few people.

Oh the attention to detail – the lace curtains pulled back with a silver ornament. So pretty and a touch of elegance!

Or you could chose to sit at one on the inner blue velvet seats. The interior gave me a serene feeling.

This is the description found on the official Octa Hotel website:

Octa Hotel first opened in Fukuoka, Japan 1989 and the next 20 years have seen us expand to over 26 branches in the Kyushu region of Japan.

Having loved the fashion, craftsmanship and cuisine of the french, we decided to share this love with the rest of Japan. Octa Hotel was thus developed to let people relax and enjoy this lifestyle experience.

With the feel of a Parisan Hotel, there are in-house designed apparel, accessories, bags, homewares and many others imported from all over Europe. While the Cafe is scene of serenity where one unwinds from the stresses outside.

You must browse the boutique section selling the prettiest French looking items like mugs and such.

The Japanese ladies serving you make you feel like you’re in Japan. The service is excellent and it’s telling that in their career section they are looking for Retail Goddess and Kitchen Enchantress.  I think women in particular would love this place where you could sit and chat for hours or just relax and read a book or magazine. Or just anyone who appreciates beautiful things.
