An Insomniac Blogging

I know that my constant tiredness is due to lack of sleep, but every time I make myself go to bed early at 10pm, I automatically wake up at 3am and just absolutely can’t go back to sleep. I try, but end up tossing and turning for 2 hours. In the end I give up and get out of bed to brush my teeth.

Getting up and typing this while the bright light from the computer shines into my eyes isn’t making things any better. I am now officially fully awake, but I can guarantee that come mid afternoon I am going to feel like a zombie in spite of my coffee infusions.

The closest I have come to a sleeping pill is the effects of flu medication. I hear that sleeping pills help, but I have an aversion to being medicated. I don’t even take panadol for headaches (makes me nauseous) and prefer using traditional axe oil instead. Axe oil is my miracle cure even for very bad aches. It’s a blend of essential oils like eucalyptus, menthol and camphor and incidentally a favourite of elderly people. If you head to Chinatown you will get a huge whiff of it at some stores. I found that you either love or hate this Chinese medication. The scent of which ironically gives my partner a headache. He absolutely hates it, which I find really funny.

I may be fully awake, but I realize I am starting to type gibberish. Just another day in the life of an insomniac.

I suffer in the same way, and I also prefer not to take sleep medication. It’s very hard to get through the day when you’re chronically exhausted. I find my insomnia is much worse when I don’t exercise regularly. I also have to stay on top of my iron levels, because when they’re low, I’m even more tired than usual.

I’ve never heard of axe oil, but it sounds similar to Tiger Balm. We use Tiger Balm for everything. For me, it’s the smell of Singapore. Whenever my kids came home from school smelling of it, I knew they’d been to the nurse’s office. She would even rub it on their temples when they had headaches.

It’s a bit similar to Tiger Balm but it’s a clear liquid instead. It’s like my miracle cure for aches. It’s kinda cool to me that the scent reminds you of Singapore 🙂

I realize I should force myself to exercise but I just can’t seem to get motivated.

  2. My problem is that I ALWAYS NEED sleep because I stay up too late. It’s not that I don’t like to sleep, once I do,I basically sleep like a log, I won’t get up until 10 hours later. However, I hate going to bed, I’m a night owl. I love staying up doing nothing, something about the night that I love I guess?

I hope your insomnia gets better 🙁 I hate being overtired while trying to focus on important tasks during the day. It’s a horrible feeling.

I am quite a nightowl myself..that’s how my whole problem started. When it was younger it was a breeze and a lack of sleep hardly put a dent into my day. Now I feel like a zombie.

Oh dear, I think maybe u shouldn’t force urself to sleep at 10 then…is it possible to go to sleep maybe at 12am instead? I notice that if i sleep at 10, i tend to wake up at 2am…somehow the body thinks it’s just doing a nap thing rather than sleeping full fledged…
