Freshness Burger Is My New Favourite Place (Nex Mall – Serangoon MRT)

(Update 25 June 2011: recently I saw the whole place boarded up – hope it’s not closed permanently. Might be due to the steep pricing)

I finally had a chance to try Freshness Burger in Singapore. It’s the very first outlet in Singapore and recently opened at the basement 2 level at Nex (newest mall in the Northeast of Singapore).

Surprisingly there was no queue yet when I was there – which was great. I over ate for sure, so that  I could try more to let you know my verdict.  The standard seems similar to what I had in Osaka which is fantastic.  I love the decor and booth seats are always cosy. This seems more like a cafe than a fast food place. It was so lovely and clean and I loved the cherry coloured wood floors.

Also loved the little touches, like the Heinz Chilli sauce and various other sauces, and the serviettes and little flower on each table.  I guess that’s why it was pricier than the usual Fast Food place like Mos Burger which is also a chain from Japan.  I had the Teriyaki Chicken Burger (very juicy and I liked that the serving of lettuce was generous. Only didn’t like the skin on the chicken and wish that it could be removed) will definitely return to try the Fish, Spam or Bacon burgers since I don’t eat beef and my choices are a little bit limited.

The onions rings I had today used real onions which they say is imported from Hokkaido.  I found them a tad oily, but that’s the way onion rings are supposed to be.  The nuggets tasted about the same as what I have at Mos Burger.  What I loved was the fried potato which is said to be made from potatoes from Freshness Burger’s very own farm in Hokkaido. Now that’s why I call dedication. It was so fluffy on the inside – just divine. Junk food is worth indulging in, only if it’s orgasmically good.

Another reason why prices are high is probably due to the food being organic. I think the lady manning the counter is the owner, and she seems really friendly and patient.  B recognized her from tv in a segment featuring Freshness Burger.  I loved the system that you can double-check what you have ordered on a screen at the counter, like how you choose your seats at the movie theatre.  You then take a number and can have a seat while the girls bring you your order when it’s ready. I didn’t understand why people were waiting at the counter.  They didn’t seem to realize this and I think there was a little bit of confusion and crowding as a result.

Even though the portion size was so small and my iced chocolate cost more than my burger, I would definitely have the divine drink again.  It was real chocolate with freshly whipped cream and not something that tasted like milk with chocolate syrup.  This and the fried potato fries were outstanding in my book.

B had the hotdog which he found expensive, and a fresh orange juice – he felt the portion was really small.  The total bill came to S$29.90 and I took photos of the receipts, so that you can see the prices of the various items.

I took tons of photos, probably too many, just for any of you who have been dying to try out the place, and want to know more. If you’re in another country, is there an outlet where you live?
