Cheap, Light and Tasty Lunch at Chinatown Market: Chee Cheong Fun

The best Chee Cheong Fun I ever had was in Penang. It was packed with intense flavour and practically melted in my mouth.  I don’t know how else to describe it, although I don’t think I’m doing a very good job.  The best Chee Cheong Fun in Singapore, although not as good as the one in Penang, can be found at the Chinatown market for just a dollar.  The stall is called Shang Hai Cheong Fun and is 02-174.  It’s only open during the day time because once I came during dinner time and it was closed.

Chee Cheong Fun is a steamed rice flour delicacy and you can opt for filling like turnip, mushroom or barbequed pork.  I chose the turnip one while B had the mushroom one.

My Chee Cheong Fun with crunchy diced turnip in it.  It’s yummy with the sweet prawn paste black sauce and chilli.

B ordered a double portion with mushroom in it. Loads of sesame seeds sprinkled on top. So yummy.

  1. Mmm, now I am really hungry. On a recent trip to Sydney, we haunted China town and also a couple of local Asian supermarkets and stocked up on a few things so I’d best get into the kitchen and start rattling some pots and pans.
    Great pics as always.
