My sister booked a room at the Tower Wing of the Sheraton Saigon. We picked this hotel for it’s excellent location in District 1. We didn’t need to take a cab at all and just walked everywhere from the hotel. Everything is within a 10 minute walk. It’s a bit like being located at the Marriott Hotel in Singapore which is right smack in the middle of Orchard Road.
Because we stayed in the tower wing, we had free food and drinks at the lounge on the 5th floor. We really got used to the pampering and totally overindulged. We all put on a kilo over just the few days, so you can imagine how much we overate. The service at the business lounge was super attentive and there was a young wait staff who was probably from China who was just wonderful. I didn’t get her name, but she was always so cheerful and made you feel so welcome.
If you are an SPG (not what you think, but Starwood Preferred Guest) you can accumulate points for a free stay which I think is a great idea, just like how you can clock up frequent flyer miles on Singapore Airlines through Krisflyer. Those who travel frequently on Corporate business travel can often accumulate enough points for a free holiday.
Brought our swimsuits, but didn’t use the pool in the end. There was just too much to see in those few days.
The lounge on the 5th floor that we have fond memories of.
Even though there was a coffee maker, the staff always offered to make us coffee or tea. They even made us the famed Vietnamese drip coffee. As I said the service was something you could easily get used to. I found myself greedily eating and drinking when I was already quite stuffed.
There were sunny looking oil paintings all over the hotel.
The very spacious hotel room with the famed sweet sleeper beds.
Just found it a bit odd that the sink was outside the bathroom. Also didn’t quite like the configuration of the shower area outside the bathtub. To be honest, the water pressure was also not very good. Not low, but not high enough the way we like it. You can get a great view of the city as you shower though.
We had a terrific view of Ho Chi Minh City from the hotel room, including that of Saigon River.
The view at night reflected the energy and vibrancy of the city.
Very nice room! And great view
I love the Starwood hotels especially for the Sheraton sweet sleeper beds.
There is a tailor right across the street from this Sheraton that is great! I got a suit made and I absolutely love it. When I go back in May I’m getting more clothes made here.
I heard the tailors here is really good and fast. I must check out your photos of Vietnam…am missing it already.
We’ve had a long history of being Hilton Hhonors members. When Ravi was in consulting, it was the Hotel chain his company belonged to, and he quickly gained high status with them. Once we were together, we traveled enough that staying with Hilton made the most sense. Then we eventually got an American Express card that maintained our “Diamond” status for us.
We’ve taken several great trips on points..The Waldorf Astoria in New York, a Hilton in Paris as part of our Honeymoon and the upcoming stay at the Conrad in Hong Kong (among others I know I’m forgetting) have all been free thanks to the frequent stay points accumulated.
With our status, we receive a complimentary upgrade to the honors floor/club level…fill in the blank here. And I understand exactly why you loved it.
The views are spectatcular.
I was so pampered with all the free food that when I got home I was constantly craving for something.
Those stays you had sounds spectacular.
