These are the images I think capture what I think is charmingly unique about Ho Chi Minh City.
1. The colourful balloons on a stick, for Tet
2. Fashionable Teenaged Girls
3. Carefree Children who could play just anywhere.
4. The cool cabbie with the suit that matched his cab.
5. The beautiful impossibly petite and willowy women in their Ao Dai
6. Vendors with the vietnamese conical shaped hat.
7. Families on motor bikes
8. The thick, dangerous looking, looping, black cables.
9. The Vietnam flag everywhere.
10. People setting up shop, without the need for an actual shop. Just little stools or tables were enough.
11. Handbags out of soda cans
i love these photos of vietnam! although i (personally) disagree with the flag ones as it is still the communist flag. it’s so unfortunate that the people and country are still ruled by communism. :-/
I really need to read up more about the history of the country and the politics. I am still quite unaware. Thanks for pointing this out.
np! at least vietnam is one of the fastest growing country right now, so i’m glad. 🙂
Yeah it’s wonderful to see the country progressing so well.
I loved the photos. You’re right…those power lines did look like a scary, tangled mess! The handbags made out of soda cans were interesting. I haven’t seen them before. Thanks for sharing your pictures!
Thanks so much. It’s always interesting for me when I see things I don’t normally see in Singapore.
Those are so good!!!! They took me back to my memories of our trip in Vietnam. Aren’t those cables looking dangerous? I kept thinking, what if one part of the wires gets cut off by someone, how are they going to fix them? Seeing many red flags definitely made me realize where we were. The photo of a family on a bike is awesome! I love the purses made out of cans! I didn’t see them when we were there. Very cool!
I saw two little stalls selling handbags, purses and caps made out of mostly 7-Up cans 🙂 It’s so lovely to share our different travel memories. It just enhances the whole experience for me. I love it when I learn something new on holiday. I always yearn to see things that are completely different from what I am used to in Singapore.
When I squeezed by an area with low hanging loose cables I wondered if I would get electrocuted…yes, quite scary.
How gorgeous.
It’s funny how culture can influence you. One of the things that always strikes me as odd in Singapore is the lack of phone/power lines above ground. Even in the US, they’re everywhere, although not quite as tangled as those appear to be.
in the 70’s we used to have loads of cables above ground and I forget exactly when they disappeared.
