Le Chocolat Cafe at Boutique Hotel The Club

I have passed by Ann Siang Hill, but never really explored the place.  When I saw this cafe from the car, I yearned to stop. It was so nice to be away from the bustle of town and the malls.

These days I increasingly crave for peace and quiet.  Serenity can only be found in silence, as I get older.  I am disturbed by noise and I can now understand the classic scene of the grouchy old man on TV who pounds on the adjoining wall and yells at his neighbour to turn the music down.

(Tree personified? – do you see the face? – makes me think of Pan’s Labyrinth)

We ordered a tea and a hot chocolate.

I very badly wanted the chocolate to be good. It was six bucks and I don’t like posting bad reviews of places where you can obviously sense passion for the best. But yet again I faced disappointment. The chocolate tasted a bit like chocolate syrup was added. And I have a sweet tooth, but even for me this was too sweet and I couldn’t finish it.

I love the place though. The ambience is so nice and relaxed. The girls who served us very polite and attentive. We were quickly served the water and tea and didn’t have to wait long.

I thought the glass with the black swirl was striking.

I also liked the distressed floor, which contrasted with the chandeliers.

This cafe is part of the Club Hotel which I took a peek at as well. I find the boutique hotels in Singapore small, but charming and I’ve always loved checkered floors and white exteriors.

When I revisit this cafe maybe I should have a tart like The Simplest Aphrodisiac recommends.

And in another life, if I ever owned a bookshop-cafe, I would hope it would look as pretty as this one with the same relaxed vibe. There will be no loud music and it will just be a quiet place to read.

Wow this place looks really cool! Too bad the drink you had wasn’t good. I do feel like checking it out though.
