Just wanted to do a simple post about the Singapore street scenes as we drive along. One feature is that there’s always construction going on. The yellow cranes are a familiar sight.
I do love the greenery and my favourite area in Singapore is Bukit Timah. This is truly a sleepy residential estate and there a row of shophouses at Greenwood avenue where parking is free. Quite a rarity here. Although you may not always be able to get a spot as it’s quite a small place. The food at the restaurants here are more expensive and I was sad when they closed down a simple cafe that used to be here and that we used to frequent.
And next we went towards ION. The structure is awesome from afar. It’s like a huge art installation with all those curves and mirrors. Of course before you enter town, you have to pay. Our government set up these gantries where you have to have a device installed in your car with a cash card and the amount is deducted as you drive through. It’s a pet peeve of all Singaporeans who drive and take taxis. The amount is about one to two dollars but this can add up as these gantries are just everywhere. This is the dreaded ERP (electronic road pricing), but I guess it keeps us from having massive traffic jams.
I do love the green trees and restored shophouses that are scattered everywhere on the island.
You’re so lucky that every tree, shrub, bush, foliage etc is so incredibly vibrant. I tried to take pictures of the streets where I live for a post and it was just depressing, so I erased them, haha. Other times when I would be in downtown I would also take pictures, but it would always just be of traffic and angry drivers amidst dreary concrete.
I would love to see where you live. I am quite sure that to me they would be beautiful. All that space! 🙂
Having just officially converted my license, there is a deep psychological impact that now I want a car. Wah.
Crysal you’re becoming Singaporean 😉 when you said “wah!”
Kind of inevitable, I suppose!
I also recently found myself using ai yah (spelling?) when I’m frustrated. Likely bc B uses it.
hahaha that’s so cute!
hi! you mentioned a cafe that was closed down there? could you tell me where is it?
I don’t think they relocated…..it was a cafe that sold gelato, coffee and sandwiches at a reasonable price but I can’t seem to recall the name right now.
