World’s Best Laksa (Claypot Laksa at Alexandra Village Food Centre)

The world’s best laksa is back at the Alexandra Village Food Centre. After the hawker centre was closed for renovation it was temporarily located at the coffeeshop in the next block.

Anyway my claim that this is the world’s best, is just in my humble opinion. You may disagree. But I think it’s safe to say that a big portion of Singapore’s population love this. Definitely those who come here in spite of the heat, the crazy lunch crowd and having to wait for a parking space. I am quite sure the employees from the AIA building near by are as addicted to this as I am. People like me who love their laksa lemak (with loads of coconut cream) will absolutely love this version and swear by it.

It’s S$3.50, $4.50 and $5.50 a bowl for small, medium and large respectively. I got the large as I haven’t eaten this for what seems like ages. Anyway once you have this for lunch, you can skip dinner. I love the tofu (really soaks up the gravy) and shredded chicken, but I could skip the prawns and cockles. Forgot to tell them not to add prawns today – the prawns are super tiny anyway.

I can’t get enought of the top layer of cream. You can add the chilli sambal if you want your laksa extra spicy. But most people will just need a little bit.

Took photos, just so you know where the stall is located. The owners seem to have passed it on to their son and his wife I think. They have maintained the original taste that I used to enjoy at Depot Road back in the late 90’s.

The only drink you should have when you come here is the famous Avacado juice, located 2 rows away. It goes really well with the laksa. It’s S$2.50 per glass. It seems all the prices have risen by 50 cents. Must be the higher rental.

I think I am totally addicted to both the laksa and the avacado drink.

  1. Wow I can get sore throat just by looking at the laksa! But I have heard it’s fantastic from my friends too, just that I haven’t got the chance to try it 🙂

Wow! Laksa in a claypot? That’s a first that I’ve seen in Singapore.

I tried the avocado juice 🙂 It was lovely. But, claypot laksa is a bit of a novelty. I really should explore a bit more 😀 Looks super delish!
