As near as I will get to the Casino (Marina Bay Sands)

Even if there was no entrance fee for Singaporeans of S$100, I don’t think I would rush to come here. I don’t really get the thrill of gambling, but I do like the surrounding attractions and just the hugeness of the mall. Also I don’t think I could take all the smoke. The last time I was near the other entrance, the smell of stale smoke was just awful.

It is pretty grand, and I must say I love the architectural details. The high ceiling, all that gold and that sleek chandelier. I am more curious about what it looks like inside in terms of the design. Must be amazing. Since I’ve never been to Vegas, I think I might be blown away.

I’ve been in the one at RWS. Meh.

I’m honestly not a huge gambler (and I HATE the lingering cigarette smoke, which leads to the side comment that in a nation that puts the needs of the many above the needs of the individual that smoking is still allowed here) and once I play a few hands of blackjack I’m mostly done.

The RWS is pretty enough, but it’s not all that exciting. We have a few small casinos in CT that people in MA go to if you just want to do a weekend getaway (as opposed to fly to Vegas) and RWS, at least, didn’t seem any fancier or more exciting than those.

Wow. I’m shocked to read that they are still allowing smoking in public places there. In US it’s illegal in most places and even here in Italy. Those laws have changed my life for the better in that I wouldn’t go out if there was a smokey atmosphere. I can’t stand the smell of smoke in my hair.

I know you would love Las Vegas. It’s truly a play ground for adults. My children had a great time too.

Thanks for showing me what it’s like to be there.

I must check up on the rules….most buildings don’t allow it, but you can see people smoking at stair wells or in front of the building. I always try to run past as fast as a can or hold my breath.

What Crystal said. Both RWS and MBS aren’t as blinged-out as many of the casinos I’ve been to in Vegas or Macau.
Cigarette smoke also makes me gag; I haven’t spend more than 10 minutes in either of Singapore’s casinos. (And continue to be shocked that it is allowed in this sort of public space.)

Lastly, Vegas is fun even if you don’t gamble (we play a few hands and call it a day). If you are on the casino floor, there is a free-flow of alcohol too, but if you are not interested in cards or dice, you can eat at some of the best restaurants or shop at some great stores, or see some great shows.

I think MBS is trying to do this, but the energy isn’t there.
