My Very Own Unforgettable Nando’s Experience (Bugis Junction)

After the controversy surrounding this place with the Joanne Peh hot water incident, I wanted to try out this place to see what the service is like for myself. They do still charge for the water, which kinda sucks, but it was S$1.80 for a bottle of ice mountain which was enough for 2 people. I have no complaints about the service. Maybe they have improved since the incident and bad publicity? The set-up is pretty nice too. However when I was there, the waitress accidentally tipped over a cup of iced water on a patron, but what annoyed me most was that the customer then angrily said something like – “the trouble with this country is that it’s full of rude people” – Ouch. I hope I heard wrong. You might be mad at the service staff, but gosh – did you have to go insult the whole country? I am Singaporean and I agree we can be rude at times, but still I think what the customer did was rude as well. Sorry, I just had to vent. Luckily Singaporeans are passive and hate confrontation (well at least I do) and no one said anything in response. From where I was seated I could not really tell what exactly had happened, but the waitresses looked frightened and stunned. Hopefully they apologized to the customer, but perhaps the waitress had been stunned into silence and forgot to. But later I saw the managers come out to apologize as well.

Anyway back to the food. My favourite item was the peri peri fries. Fries with a dusting of chilli powder – yum. However, the meal had too much lime in it which overpowered the natural sweetness of the grilled chicken. A quarter chicken with 2 sides costs S$14.90 before taxes. Our meal came to S$37.20 and for this price range, I would rather go to Kenny Rogers.

If you can’t take it too spicy there’s a mild version. But even if you find it too mild you can always add one of the spicier sauces on the side.

Any idea what nationality is the customer? Nice photos by the way. 🙂

just guessing around the region of India……I was just shocked & upset by that comment and just hoped that my ears were playing tricks on me. Whichever nationality, I just felt it wasn’t too nice to scold all the people in the country if he was upset with the service at this particular restaurant where ironically I don’t think all the waitstaff were even local. Maybe he was frustrated by previous encounters and took it out here? Really not sure. But again…I hope I heard wrongly.

I don’t go to Nando’s so much here in Singapore, mostly ‘cos of location and convenience, but I was a big fan of it in NZ (not that I could afford it often). I LOVE the peri-peri chips and in NZ they have the creamy chip dip as well GUH.

i read about joanne peh’s incident but i thought it was at another outlet… didn’t know it was the one at bugis. anyway i love nando’s … mainly for its delicious grilled chicken dipped in peri peri sauce! but the waiting queue is horrendous. have to wait for an hr if we were to go during peak hours, quite insane!
