Octapas at Clarke Quay

An interesting, but expensive tapas place at Clarke Quay (S$100 at least for a couple). Since I aim to be honest – service was slow, plates were only cleared after prompting, and the lighting was too dim for conversation.

I did love the sexy octopus lady mascot. The artist who did the logo should be commended. I did also like the chicken and ham croquettes, while my companions gravitated towards the squid on a hot plate and salty ham and sausages.

Perhaps I am just getting too old for dimly lit places, where conversation is muted. Even those the music was repetitive, as least it wasn’t too loud. I wish the couches would have been more plush and comfortable as well.

One day I hope I get the chance to go to Spain to try the real stuff. Or does anyone out there have recommendations for really authentic Spanish cuisine in Singapore?

haven’t tried it yet, but there’s a tapas place at the corner of orchard road and orange grove road (might be in a hotel, but the restaurant faces the road–we walked past it all the time when we were in the serviced apt on Orange Grove Rd).

I find it rare to not pay 100+ for two people, sadly. But that’s encouraged me to do a lot more cooking.

Sad that you didn’t have the best experience–R and I were talking about tapas recently.

My cousin from Australia says that she finds the restaurant prices cheap and that a simple sandwich costs at least S$10 there. But the Aussie dollar has really appreciated.

The best spanish food (paella) I had was so far at Serenity at VivoCity, although the service was nothing to rave about.

imho, there’re 3 Spanish restaurants that are okay. But they’re not completely authentic. Don Quijote Spanish Restaurant (Lorong Kilat), Bilbao (TripleOne Somerset) and the one Crystal mentioned- at Bodega y Tapas, entrance on the outside, facing the road, next to Orchard Hotel. See if you’re up to trying it. Google for their reviews, average them out and see if they match your preferences.
