Procrastination and those Nagging Tasks

I have tons of nagging tasks, you know those things you know you need to do, but end up being distracted by something else.  You are either afraid of them (going to the dentist) or they just seem so tedious (going through bills and sorting your papers) or intimidating (sorting the mountain of stuff in your cupboards).

But somehow when you get them done, you have this feeling that a brick has been lifted off you.  I am trying to go off-line a bit and get more stuff done and lead an organized life. So far it’s been eluding me, but I hope to get there one day.  I hope one day it becomes as routine as brushing my teeth.

Do tell me if you have any tips or suggestions as to how to make it fun?  Or just how to stop procrastinating.  I try to break up the tasks into tiny bits and tell myself it’s ok if I just do a few minutes at a time.

My biggest problem is, there are so many wonderful things to be distracted by including blogging and reading blogs that are impossible to resist.

I understand what you mean. Sometimes getting distracted can be another cause of procastination.

Dear Bookjunkie, a good book and a cup of coffee: That’s just perfect as far as I’m concerned. So how on earth can I make time for those nagging tasks which I keep putting off? I feel often that I ought to change the way I use my time. I’m nearly 77. I might not have much time left and there’s still so much I need to do! How can I better organise my life? I wished I knew. Some days I seem to be able to do more than other days. I have the same problem that you seem to have with unsorted papers. If only, if only, I could bring some kind of order in all the accumulated stuff. A big help would be, if I could throw some of the stuff out. This is very, very difficult, because I can’t make up my mind whether it’s worth keeping or not. I wish you all the best and happy sorting!

Hi Aunty Uta….so glad you came by 🙂 I must check out your blog.

It’s so hard for me to decide what to throw out as well. I always have this feeling that I might regret it later and find that document to be really important or useful.

I took 10 minutes out to do some sorting and I did manage to discard some papers so my pile is not as intimidating now…what a relief.

If you learn, teach me. I suck at all of that.

I sorted out a few things this morning and was totally exhausted after that. A 40 minute nap in the afternoon revived me. While I was fast asleep hubby prepared coffee and warm scones with fresh cream, fresh strawberries and strawberry jam. I didn’t mind being woken up for that!
