The Haze is Back in Singapore

The Haze is back and I feel it in my throat. You can smell the smoke as well. If you suffer from respiratory disorders it’s best to stay home. The PSI reading has gone from good to moderate and you can check it here.

The haze is due to fires from Sumatra, due to traditional agricultural practices of forest clearance. Happens like clockwork every year and I wonder why it’s a problem that’s so hard to resolve. It seems to be due to lack of resources but I wonder why the asian neighbours can’t help. Malaysia usually has a worse experience than us, so I guess we can count our blessings. I wonder how beautiful blogger, Kaho, is in Jakarta. The air quality must be really bad there.

I attempted some photos and am not quite sure if I quite captured the reduced visibility. The flats in the distance usually come out crystal clear. Now the Singapore scene is shrouded in mist. One silver lining is that it doesn’t feel quite as hot with the sun’s rays being blocked.

These next two weeks are not a good time to be in Singapore, so if you’re planning a holiday it would be good to postpone it. On the other hand, if you want to experience a less crowded Orchard Road, now’s a good time, as most people are hiding indoors.

  1. I remember those dark days when I lived in Singapore! My high school did not allow us to have a PE class outside during the days when the smoke is the worst. I think because of the way wind blows or maybe because we are in the lower hemisphere, we don’t get affected by the smoke in Jakarta, but we do have air pollution caused by exhaust… I’m so sorry to hear about this!!!

I think kids here would be happy if there was no school, but I think school goes on.

It’s good to hear that you’re not as badly affected. Was thinking about your lil girls.

I think Malaysia probably gets it real bad. Now I think we just wait for the rain 🙂

    I can’t say I’m looking forward to returning mid-haze
