Macarons from Bakerzin were disappointing

After blogging all about macarons recently, I decided to try a box from Bakerzin. Unfortunately they were a bit stale, very dry and nothing like the very first macaron I tried at TWG. They looked pretty, but the shell cracked too easily and the frilly portions at the base of the top and bottom meringue cookies did not look very neat.  The filling did not infuse through well, and it was not dense or chewy like the much superior one I had at TWG. A whole box of 6, cost about S$8.40 and a single one cost S$1.50. There was also no labelling inside the box describing the flavours, so you were left guessing.

The rose macaron was pretty, but as you can see the ‘feet’ did not turn out so good.

It’s a shame, they look absolutely delicious from this side of the screen. I have never seen them here though, but I’m going to keep an eye out for them. Too bad they’re so expensive, looks like I could eat a whole box of them in an instant!

Try the ones from Antoinette. The owner-Chef used to be from Canele. But nothing we have in SGP commercially are as good as Laduree or Pierre Herme. A couple of hobbyist bakers in SGP can match that quality though. Don’t think they sell it though.

Thanks so much for the recommendation Imp. I hope to try the real deal one day. Wish those tea salons would come to Singapore one day soon.

Great photos! Almost want to lick the screen. 🙂

I have tried the Canele macarons and the TWG ones and, to my tastes, the TWG ones are far superior to Canele and all the other macarons I have tried here. Canele are nice but I found them drier and in some of them the filling is so strong it overwhelms everything. Salted Caramel was way too salty (for me) as well. The TWG ones have much nicer flavours and are a better ‘mouth experience’ overall. Just my opinion, anyway.

Licking the screen is one of the greatest compliments I got 😉

Thanks Karin…it’s great to know that on my first go I already tried the best. Quite like the quality at TWG.
