Shangri-la Hotel

To me Shangri-la Hotel kinda feels like home, because we used to organize several conferences here and I even stayed in the hotel once.  As a teen I always dreamt of working in a hotel as it seems so glamourous, but my friends who work in the indsutry tell me that for staff it’s hardly glamourous as they work on holidays like Christmas and have to enter by the staff entrance from the back, which sucks in most hotels.  They also tell me that hotel and F&B staff are very badly paid and I must agree.  No wonder there is such a high turnover in the industry.

Took some photos of the lobby and swimming pool area, just for fun.

The Rose Veranda especially always feel cosy and the staff always treat you warmly even if you’re not dressed to the nines.  I loathe places that look down on you or act all snooty depending on how you dress.

Love the two photos looking down from the stairs, it almost looks like they are in miniature or are actually tiny pieces of doll’s house furniture.

Nice photo’s. Did you play with the depth of field yourself, or was that a lucky side-effect? Looks like you photographed a doll house!

I worked in hotels for 5 years in college/grad school. It did suck, but the jobs paid better than retail or work/study and the hours were more compatible with my classes. In theory I got a travel discount, which would have been better had I not been a broke college student who couldn’t travel ANYWHERE.

The one thing about having done so is that I’m super picky about my stays at hotels. I understand how easy/hard it is to get certain things done and I have no patience for bad service.

Must have been hard to juggle school and work.

No wonder…my friends in the F&B/ Hotel industry are super picky with food and service too. I guess I would be too if I knew how it all worked on the inside.
