Changi City Point: The New Mall opposite Expo MRT & My Directory Picks

Changi City Point is developed by the same group that came up with the very popular Centre Point in town.  Many would come here for the outlet stores including some very firsts (like Payless which sells cheap shoes arranged neatly by size), but what appealed to me more was the design. There was a lot of natural light, green spaces and wider than normal pathways. Reminded me a little of the malls in Orlando.  I just wish we had a Target and TJ Mexx and all those wonderful American department stores that we don’t have here.  Now that would make me excited. (if you read my other posts you’ll know I hate shopping and blogging about malls keeps me from getting bored when I’m dragged to them).

If I had to pick, out of all the outlet stores, the American Tourister/Samsonite outlet appealed the most to me.

Out of the food places Kuriya, Texas Chicken, Carl’s Junior and Starbucks would probably be where I’d like to eat or just have a drink. There are two foodcourts here as well, but they were so crowded it looked uncomfortable.  My conclusion is most people would prefer this mall as they like to shop but I like Katong 112 better as it has a cinema.  Liang Court is still my favourite mall, because of Kinokuniya and more authentic Japanese food.  I tend to like cosy, not too crowded malls with a simple easy to navigate design and good dining options.  It must have a bookstore and a cinema is a bonus.

I like that there’s a Cold Storage here but Market Place at 112 Katong seems more interesting.

The sky lights are such a nice feature. This one in particular was a water feature as well.

The mall wasn’t too crowded yet so there were still places to rest your feet.

As you can tell, I was very taken by all the green features. Adds that feeling of space. Any thing that makes a mall less like a mall is good in my book.

Thought umisushi was cute with the sushi stools. Doesn’t look too comfy though and I prefer proper chairs or best of all, booth seats.

I think the sushi at Kuriya is probably superior.

Expo MRT Stn used to be a “ghost” town unless on wkends when they hold fairs or exhibitions. Now it is diff with the new mall and the latest University yet to be completed. There are only 3 trains ie numbers 1,2 and 3 shuttling betwn Changi airport and TNM. If u take the train in the morn, u will notice lots of Indians & Fillipinos. I was told there are at least 10,000 Indian & Fillipino IT workers on wkdays in Changi Business Park. IBM has got its HQ here. BTW, the food court at the basement is “halal” meaning no pork! Gain City occupies a whole floor. They just had their opening ceremony last wk wif lots of discounts n offers!

thanks for the detail. yeah, the place is buzzing now. In the past I wouldn’t have bothered to stop at Expo either and just head to Changi airport. Saw loads of people carrying boxes of electronic stuff like Ovens from Gain City. Had no idea IBM HQ was there. I also spotted a hotel today. Looks like more construction going on.

Sorry I’ve been absent from commenting in so long…I got really behind on my blog reading and am just starting to catch up!

How did you find the prices…are they real outlet discount prices, or just reasonable for singapore?

    • bookjunkie says:

no worries. I have been absent for a week too. But will be catching up soon. Have major internet withdrawal having been offline for a week.

  4. Jessica Kho says:

A nice shopping mall as it is indeed not crowded. You can see Toast Box near empty even on Sunday afternoon, but i dont think i will visit there often even though i stayed in the East because the car park is FULL all the times, yet the shopping mall is not crowded at all. We have no choice after waiting for 45minutes for car park and have to park illegally at the road side, and got a traffic offence slip from the cisco summon uncle, really not a pleasant first visit.

Just got a parking fine from cisco. The proper parking lots were full and queue was terrible. I saw the whole stretch of cars were booked too along the side of the road. This will be my first and last trip. Not worth going there.

  7. Peter Tan says:

Why today 22th April after 9pm i still see many cars parking on ground floor near the pub when the guard told me no parking allowed ?

Thanks for being the ‘ambassador’ of Changi City Point. I didn’t know they’ve built a big shopping mall there until my son’s music school requires him to perform at the arena. I searched for the direction and chanced upon your website.

I really like your pixs postings. They were clear and crisp especially the color tone was very natural. May I know your camera brand & model?

    Thanks so much in advance.

    • bookjunkie says:

Glad you liked them Val..not so fond of malls but my partner loves checking them out, so I decided to keep myself occupied taking pictures and blogging 😉 I use my iPhone actually. The quality of the photos surprised me too. Another reason for me to thank Steve Jobs.
