Let me reveal my ignorance. Before this trip I had no idea that Delhi would experience a real winter and that it was located so near the Himalayas. But I did know that it was the capital of the largest democracy in the world. I tried to look out the window for a view of the mountains, but I don’t think we were that close.
The first thing I saw was smog that seemed a tad worse than what I experienced in Beijing. It seems that it gets bad in winter due to the lack of rain.
Now Uzbekistan would be a really exotic place to travel to. Although I would be nervous in that small plane. Central Asia seems to me to be the most exotic and unexplored place in the world.
We were very impressed by the Indira Gandhi Airport which is brand new and reminded us of Singapore’s Changi Airport in some ways but more Indian (obviously) in terms of decor. Magic Masala potato chips in the vending machine caught our eye. I guess you can probably get this in Mustafa (Singapore’s 24hour department store in Little India).
The restrooms were very clean.
It was massively crowded when we reached immigration. But it was beautiful with the statues of the traditional hand gestures that is used in dance.
The immigration officers were stern but not as intimidating as the ones I’ve faced in the US.
Costa Coffee which is from the UK (and not in Singapore yet) was the first coffee joint I saw at the airport and later at a mall as well.
It was super crowded at the airport. Just slightly less so than Ho Chi Minh in Vietnam.
Haha Costa Coffee – I never imagined you’d see that in India!
I hadn’t heard of it before I came here. How is the coffee?
It’s OK, nothing amazing (though their festive hot chocolates with marshmallows are good) as they are a chain so fairly standard.
Where I used to work there was a Costa Coffee in the foyer and the cost of drinks etc. was slightly supplemented so it was cheaper than going out to buy one elsewhere and I always used to look forward to the ritual of getting my latte each morning 🙂
coincidentally the best hot chocolate I had was in a London McDonalds more than a decade ago. Singapore doesn’t do good hot chocolate somehow. Is there any place in Singapore where you think the hot chocolate is passable?
Actually I don’t think any of McDonalds hot drinks are that bad considering. As for hot chocolate here I can’t say that I’ve ever had one that has really stood out. On one trip home I actually brought back a tin of hot chocolate powder for my own personal supply 🙂 but I shall have to investigate Singapore’s hot chocolates a bit more thoroughly I think!
Yeah I like to buy the coco powder from overseas that’s at least 70% pure cocoa.
Cool! I wanna go traveling too!!
I dread the packing and flying but always feel so happy once I reach my destination and feel so full of energy and renewed after a trip. It’s the best way for me to learn about new cultures and reflect on our own.
That’s a vast improvement to what it looked like 5 years ago when I was there.
I am so impressed.
