Do you ever get an intense craving for something and feel utterly disappointed when you get to the place, only to find it closed. Well that happened to me the last time I made the journey to Alexandra village hawker centre for my favourite meal. If you’ve been reading this blog for some time you’ll know that it’s claypot laksa which I have been raving about for some time. Or what most fans, like myself, would refer to as, Depot road laksa based on its original location at a breezy little coffeeshop on Depot Road. That was when it was run by the parents of the current owner and the laksa was served promptly every day at 10 am and sold out by 1 pm or earlier. Katong Laksa is totally insipid compared to this divine concoction.
Well sorry for the repetitive post, but we returned and this time I got to satisfy my craving for the sweet, spicy coconut curried noodles, that in my opinion is the best Singapore food invention ever. It’s truly droolworthy and totally worth every calorie. Just in case you were wondering, I am sure it’s more than a thousand calories for for that large bowl I had, but every morsel was savoured.
When a stall is popular is always self service. Just be careful to get a table as close as possible. The claypot is very heavy and it keeps the laksa piping hot. I always worry that I am going to topple over the tray being the clutz that I am. Lucky for me, B always does the queuing, paying, ordering and carrying. Think it was S$5.50 a bowl.
I’m actually tempting myself all over again, posting these.
And then we had avacado juice (milk plus avacado) at what I think might be a copycat stall? The original stall was closed. Not bad, but definitely not as good as what we had at the original stall the last time. The people at the stall are also not as friendly. It made me wonder what the original stall vendor thinks about someone else selling the avacado milk drink as well when his version got popular.
This time the char siew rice stall was closed as well. So don’t come here on a Sunday if you want to have the original avacado or the famous char siew rice. And the claypot laksa stall is usually closed on a Monday I think. But the last time we came which was a Saturday it happened to be closed as well so that was sad for us.
Ahhh… My mouth is watering!! Looks so good! Definitely must go try one day.
it’s one of the few meals for me that’s worth the calories.
ahhhhhh!!!! *drools*
This goes on my must-eat list for when I’m back in Singapore next year!
The avocado juice also looks good. Not sure if it’s a good combi though?
heheh yeah it’s a really heavy combo…no need to eat for the rest of the day 😉
