Watching the Snow White Movie at Cathay (Spoiler Alert)

My cousin was eager to watch Snow White & the Huntman, mainly for Charlize Theron and I have to say she stole the show as the Evil Stepmother. And it was a brilliant performance. There was a deep sorrow and desperation in her portrayal so she was not just pure evil. That depair over aging is something most women can relate to. I felt she was definitely more beautiful than Kirsten Stewart although in the story it was supposed to be about inner beauty. I found Kirsten’s Snow White just too sulky and slouchy – I am not a Twilight fan so she didn’t appeal to me. She seemed akward in that role as much as Charlize owned hers and was breathtaking. Parts of the special effects were pretty breath-taking too. The parts involving the evil queen. The male characters I found boring.

I would have cast Alexis Bledel (Gilmore Girls and now Mad Men) as Snow White. I think she was born for the part.

Cathay is one of our favourite cinemas and the view from the top is lovely.

Super hot day in June, but I’m sure tourists must be glad it isn’t raining. Although I often wonder how they can bear the heat, being not very used to it if they come from colder parts of the world.

  1. Cathay is my favorite theatre in town too because the theaters are relatively new, and there is leg space! (I’m tall.) I didn’t know about the splendid view though. I’ll check it out soon. Looks like a nice date place.

I can’t stand Kristen Stewart, so I skipped this one, although I’ve heard Charlize Theron was so good that I might rent it.

Me too. Accompanied my cousin as she really wanted to watch it, being a Theron fan. But Charlize Theron’s superb acting made it worth while in the end 🙂
