What most Singaporeans aspire to purchase. But you usually end up tied to your job, unable to quit, even if it sucks big time. Even with a grant, you’ll be in debt for years and somehow you don’t really purchase the flat as the lease expires in 99 years (especially if you have kids), so it’s more like renting it. But in land scarce Singapore, where a condo unit is over a million bucks, even being able to own a government flat is quite a big undertaking. A new 3 room flat in a good location, costs about half a million at least? I could be wrong as I don’t keep tabs on the market. It’s often said that Singapore is full of millionaires, but I don’t think it’s fair to also count the roof over their heads.
But I quite liked this photo I snapped some time ago. The sky was real pretty that day.
i think 3 room flat may be slightly lesser than half a million. but still expensive 🙁
Our prices here are just unaffordable huh? Or just to be in a lot of debt.
I think I should have said 4 room (meaning 3 bedrooms). I still think it’s unfair that they term a 3 bedroom flat as a 4 room flat. Kinda misleading.
we have been sold out.if indeed we have swiss standard of living, then we should apsire to more than an HDB flat.
so true, that.
Well, I’m very happy with my 3-room flat. We didn’t aspire for condo cos that would require cash for mortgage and we wouldn’t have been able to finance my husband’s studies. The downside is that in a few years’ time, we would have to get a bigger place when kids get bigger..
Thanks so much for sharing your experience mf 🙂
Condo is for prestige and ease of use for private facilities. Else, HDB suffices.
For me the first thing I look at is location and proximity to mrt
