Omurice

A couple of years ago, I didn’t know what Omurice was. Then I tried it once at a little stall at Takashimaya and I was hooked. Today I decided to forgo my usual ramen at the Japanese Food Court, Manpuku at Tampines 1, so that I could take a picture of the Omurice for my blog show and tell. It kinda feels like show and tell on some days. I find myself trying new dishes that I normally wouldn’t. Usually when I get a hankering for something that’s really good, I am really boring and can have the same dish for weeks.

I think little kids would love this meal. It’s basically rice that’s panfried in sweet ketchup , skillfully wrapped in a fluffy omelette and drizzled with a tomato sauce (a bit like diluted pasta sauce with onions).  There are variations and you can chose to have it with curry sauce as well.  I saw a little Japanese boy happily carrying a plate of it back to his table. It was pretty worth your buck for just $5.50 Singapore dollars and you can a generous portion of fresh salad which was sweet and crunchy. I was so glad it was not stale like I have had at some places. Stale salad is just awful.

I would say the quality is just average as I have had better, but then again a good omu rice that I once had at  the Takashimaya food court cost me closer to S$13.
