I can see why Capella Singapore won the architectural heritage awards. When I come here I feel like I’m in another country – perhaps Bintan in Indonesia, especially with the view of the South China sea. It’s also so quiet and there’s complete serenity. The restored colonial architecture is just exquisite. It’s even more beautiful than the Raffles Hotel due to the expansive green surroundings (12 hectares). The online brochure shows peacocks roaming the grounds. There’s just more space to play with in Sentosa. From the Capella website I learn for the first time (how embarrassing, being local and all) that Sentosa means peaceful and tranquil in Malay. Capella is a Australian ultra luxury hotel chain and Singapore is its first venture into Asia.
I would never be able to afford to stay here. My companion mentioned that a room a night cost above a thousand Singapore dollars. Once she mentioned there was a promotion with a credit card, but it still cost a whopping S$700. When we were here, we spotted a wedding car and people having meetings and planning their wedding. There was even a wedding going on in the ballroom, so this is definitely a place for the one in a lifetime event. If a basic room here costs so much, a wedding is possible only for millionaires or celebrities I think.

I checked out the rates a while back. It is pretty expensive to stay here! More so than the poshest of hotels in town!
