Grandma’s at Nex (Serangoon Mall)

When we feel like eating local food in a restaurant setting, we always chose Grandma’s.  It’s a pretty safe bet.  Although all that coconut can make you feel very full.  The Curry Chicken and Sago with Gula Melaka are darn good though. I always ask for an extra bowl of just the chicken curry.

I ordered the Ayam Bukhari which comes with beef rendang, sambals prawn (mostly onions) and fried chicken. Since I don’t eat cow they replaced the beef with chicken. So it was major chicken overload.

The first time I ate at a Grandma’s was in KL, Malaysia where you get the original stuff at their highly acclaimed Madam Kwan’s. Somehow my Malaysia experience was just a notch better. I recall having our meal under a chandelier.

I have been to the other two branches in Singapore at United Square and at Orchard Parade Hotel but those two branches have always turned the air-conditioning down real low. I’m ok with it, but the rest of my family turn into popsicles. There’s another branch now at Paragon as well so they must be doing well. The outlets are run by a former chef of Madam Kwan’s.

This is my second visit to the Nex branch and you can read my previous review here.

I do like that they are generous with the Gula Melaka. Service was a bit slow, but the tasty food and politeness made up for it.

The restaurant is on B1 at Nex and look out for the Din Tai Fung which is very close to it.

Oh my.. looks yummy! The food does look pretty similar to Madam Kwan. Must check it out before I leave.
