I found the Dali sculptures both beautiful and thought provoking. I definitely have quite a lot of repressed feelings and I probably repressed them, just to survive. I think this is probably true of most people.
An interpretation of A Woman Aflame. Here’s an extract.
Dali once explained this figure as a Freudian outgrowth of the natural curiosity of children to investigate enclosed spaces, both in order to satisfy the desire to know what these spaces contain, and to exorcise the fear that what is unknown may be harmful. Freud explained that drawers are a representation of the concealed sexuality of women.
It was lovely how the quote explains it all.
This visual was important in highlighting the recurring symbolism in the works of Dali.
The egg represents life, love and hope.
I found this piece particularly beautiful. A homage to fashion, and I think my cousin mentioned that the female figure probably represented Coco Chanel with her signature hat. Here is more information about this sculpture – Homage to Fashion.
I don’t know much about art. I just know what I like. And if I owned a painting, it would have splashes of yellow in it. I tend to gravitate towards paintings with a bit of yellow in them. Especially when it contrasts with blue.
The reds I find provocative. Wish I knew more, but I would probably need an art student to explain this all to me. I find it very fascinating and enthralling – this not knowing. It wouldn’t be as fun if everything was so transparent and obvious.
The exhibits came with warnings of nudity, but to me it was all very mild. Children would not get the sexual connotations anyway. Here the snail is supposed to represent the human head and I must confess that I don’t quite fully grasp the meaning of this painting.
