Too Much of An Imperialist Vibe?

We both just felt that this latest Louis Vuitton Ad Display had too much of an Imperialist vibe. Actually B pointed it out to me and I agreed.  The porter had that dejected, forlorn look as well, which compounds the fact.

I guess they were trying to create the magic of a bygone era?  A suggestion of the long history of the brand? I still think it costs too much and some French people I knew, found it ridiculously priced and couldn’t believe people queued up to buy it.  In Singapore, in particular, this brand cries out – ostentatious. It’s not the product itself, but the way people have reacted to it and used it as a status symbol.

The ad is just….. well, not too tasteful…

It’s also rather unfortunate people have looked beyond it’s superior craftsmanship and aim only making social statements 🙁

Well said, bookjunkie. I am not a fan of Louis Vuitton and I cannot understand why people would queue up and die for a famous but overly-priced brand.

I found that more than a little disturbing.

Honestly, I just don’t get the appeal of the LV brand. The way the leather is treated it looks and feels like a heavy plastic. Give me a soft, buttery leather any day over LV.
