City Square Mall (Farrer Park MRT)

I only just found out that City Square Mall is attached to Farrer Park MRT. I was surprised that it was still relatively empty apart from the NTUC supermarket which had the usual dull queues.

In my family, we like to joke that it’s my cousin R’s favourite mall because she is always there on the weekends. I decided to check it out and what stood out for me were these things:

1. Connected to the MRT
2. Toast Box where you can have kopi or tea
3. A very spacious foodcourt with natural light flooding in
4. Very spacious walkways
5. There are so many levels of shops, including Singapore’s oldest department store (Metro), electronics and a woman’s only gym (Amore).
6. A Popular Store (my least favourite bookstore), but I managed to find a bingo set there.

I found the food selections here the usual unimaginative range of chain outlets. As they say, familiarity breeds contempt. On the bright side, if you’re a tourist, this won’t be an issue. Maybe that’s why I’m so happy on holidays – everything is new and exciting.

It’s also a eco-mall which special parking spaces for hybrid cars. Personally if you ask me to pick a mall which is not too crowded, I still prefer Liang Court (the authentic Japanese food and bookstore are a huge draw for me).

If you don’t live in Singapore, and if you were ever wondering about our mundane aspects, this is what our parking garages look like. There are indicators which turn green to show you there’s a spot available. A big improvement, I must say. Do you have a similar system where you are? In Singapore this is necessary because parking space is so scarce especially during the weekends and everyone wants the better spots in the lot, closest to the entrance.

We also have cute identifiers, so that you don’t forget where you park. Thought the octopus theme was cool.

I noticed a playground outside and there was a nemo ride for the little ones inside the mall.

One quirky thing I noticed was that the male and female symbols for the washrooms have their hands up, like they were partying.
