Curry Rice at Maxwell Road Hawker Centre

Looking at the photos and recalling the taste of this simple meal makes me hungry all over again. Rice, cabbage, pork chops and curry. Hainanese style. We like adding the egg, sunny side up. This dish came about because of a need for cheap food. The way our ancestors, the manual labourers used to eat decades ago. But they couldn’t afford the meat back then, and often it was just rice and curry for taste. It’s a very uniquely Singaporean dish and you can’t find this in China.

It’s super hard to find a seat here, but it’s worth the wait.

You can get fried chempedak here as well are goreng pisang (fried banana). I prefer the batter of the one at the Old Airport Road but the lady owner here is much friendlier.
