An Espresso Machine for this Coffee Junkie?

My eyes were glazed over as I looked at these espresso machines inside the Little India department store, Mustafa. I didn’t realize that they were selling for as low as S$200. I wonder if they are any good though. The higher range ones were as much as S$3000. Anyone out there own an espresso machine? I was figuring that 3 months of visits to Starbucks would be equivalent to getting the cheaper machine. But you would still need to buy the beans.

Not only am I a book junkie and a celeb junkie, I am most definitely a coffee junkie. Add carb junkie to the list since I’m at it.

I bought a small DeLonghi off Craigslist for $50 (never used – unwanted wedding gift) and I love it. No time during the week but we use it every weekend.

We bought a Saeco machine when we were in Singapore. I’m not a coffee drinker, and I remember being shocked at how expensive it was. But 7 years later, it’s still going strong. I like it because I can make coffee for guests with just one push of a button. My friends love it because apparently it makes great coffee. My husband says it’s one of the best purchases he’s ever made. Whatever — I drink tea (as you know!)

I bought a nespresso sometime last year. Some don’t quite like the idea of the capsules but it works for me because it’s so easy to clean up after use. I now have good coffee to look forward to every weekend and everytime I crave for coffee! Never regretted my purchase. Oh, but I have to confess that it doesn’t stop me from getting my coffee when I’m not at home :p

What does Nespresso taste like? Is it similar to Starbucks? Which do you prefer?

      • HZ says:

The good thing about the nespresso capsules is that there are different types of coffee to choose from and one box comes with 10 capsules (about S$10 for a box) so you can buy a few boxes in different flavours to have variety. Go check out their boutique at ion orchard and ask for a cuppa to try!! I prefer the nespresso coffee to starbucks coffee, but that’s just me. 🙂

P & C have a Nesprsso machine. Get them to make you one the next time your at their place.

  5. Hey if you have the dough, get the self-cleaning types. I always wanted one of those! HZ is right, you’d still want to go to cafes and have coffee because it’s just so wonderfully relaxing to do so.
Movenpick beans at NTUC/Cold Storage are quite good.

Do check out the Bacchi Espresso machine if you are still searching for an espresso machine. It uses ground coffee beans, and just requires a stovetop to make espresso.
