Paul: The French Cafe at Ngee Ann City (Takashimaya)

Wanted to try this new Parisian Cafe (or French Bakery Restaurant) that’s come to Singapore. Been reading so much about it on all the Singapore food blogs. My conclusion is the wait staff could smile more and be more polite, but I guess they have a hard time coping with the crowds. At least we got a thank you in French when we left. That was nice.

I liked the chocolate crossaint and it would be much more pleasant to sit here if the euphoria dies out and the place gets a little less crowded. There’s a perpetual queue for a seat right now.

A rare shot of an empty table which lasted for just a few seconds before it was filled again. I must say those sitting here would have a nice view.

The scrambled eggs were pretty good.

The tarts looked enticing.

The seating outside looked comfortable

Found this pastry too sweet. It has a chocolate mixed with custard filling and I prefer just chocolate.

The croque monsieur was good.

I highly recommend the hot chocolate with whipped cream.

But you need a glass of ice water on the side as this can be very rich. They definitely use real cocoa and fresh whipped cream.

I liked the chocolate bon pain. It’s like a crossaint but filled with chocolate.

The Cafe Au Lait was just ok. I guess don’t come here for the coffee.

I really do hope the service improves though. Among the wait staff, some were just too snooty and that is always a turn off for me.

I’m so happy they’re open! Can’t wait for the crowds to die down a bit so I can try them.

The hot chocolate and pastries are worth it. I think their service might be improving. It was not as horrendous as some reviews I read, but could be better.

I have to agree with the writer about the service staff. They are very unfriendly and abrupt. In Singapore that is not acceptable at all even if the food is good. The ambience and food overall are good, though. I hope the service and service staff have improved by now.
