Manpuku: A Japanese Food Court in Singapore

When we’re at the eastern part of Singapore and at the newest mall there, Tampines 1, we always choose to have our lunch at the Japanese food court Manpuku. It’s a clean spacious place with loads of seats and all kinds of food to satisfy your Japanese food cravings. Ramen, Udon, Sushi, Katsu Don, Omu Rice – they’ve got it all, but being boring and predictable I ended up with the same meal again. Hokkaido Shoyu Ramen from the AOBA Hokkaido Ramen stall. The noodles here were going at a special price of just $6.50 Singapore dollars while I recall it was $11 at the sit down restaurant at the orchard road mall – ION.

First I need to tell you that the AOBA chain does not have consistency in terms of quality. The quality was best when the Japanese chefs were here overseeing the operation, but since they have left, the standards have fallen. Then again, for $6.50 I shouldn’t be complaining much. It was an average meal.

B had a mixed matcha and vanilla sundae (S$3) and I had a chocolate parfait ($5) for dessert from the stall called Kyoto Sabo. The chocolate parfait was not too heavy and the best bit was at the bottom of the cup, The cornflakes and clear jelly. It was really refreshing and more milky than sweet. I definitely give the dessert a thumbs up, although B who doesn’t take much sugar, found his sundae very sweet.

I’m not sure why, but on the receipt the Foodcourt is listed as Bachmann Japanese Restaurant.
